Simone's Thoughts - I learned a new word the other day - canape. I learned it via my normal method of reading books. My mother was shocked that I did not know this word, although I am unsure as to why I would. I didn't grow up in high society, I've never catered parties where I would use this term, and I definitely don't have an everyday situation where I would use it. Perhaps if I won all this furniture and outdoor fun stuff, I would be able to find a use for it.
